Back when mail was delivered by horseback, formal invitations were mailed in two envelopes. As one could imagine, mail back then would get quite dirty. Therefore, the outer envelope protected the invitation while en route to its destination. The courier arrived on horseback and handed it to the butler. The butler then discarded the outer envelope, and delivered the inner envelope to the recipient. This ensured the recipient would never come into contact with the filth of the mail.
It's Personal
While the postal system has since improved, we are all becoming more and more dependant on e-mail. In all of the expediency and convenience of e-mail, the personality is lost. I love the thrill of going through my mail to discover a hand-addressed envelope. Nothing says, 'I am thinking of you' or 'Thank You' or 'I Love You' more than someone taking the time to send a hand written note!
The most personal of correspondence is a wedding invitation. It is the first formal declaration that two people have found their significant other and they want the recipient to share in the celebration of the occasion. By telling the story of who people are as individuals and who they are as a couple, it sets the tone for one of the most joyous days in a person's life.
It is my hope that you give me the opportunity to help you showcase your sense of style and personality in this important piece of your story.
